This is a mid Taisho era (c.1920) large rope weave kago (bag / basket). Very intricately made with thick hemp woven into a round basket. Very thick and durable, it was probably used to store ceramics to minimize any breakage.
It has been in storage for nearly a century and remains in good condition. It does shed a bit. It measures 8 1/2" in circumference by 7" tall (22 x 18 cm).
